Microsoft buys Bethesda parent ZeniMax

This week has been kicked off with some major news in the gaming industry. Microsoft has announced that they've acquired ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, for $7.5 billion. Bethesda is responsible for game franchises such as the Elder Scrolls, Fallout, DOOM, Wolfenstein, and many others.
This news means that the vast majority of Bethesda's work is going to be exclusive to the Xbox side of things. This is a huge get for Microsoft, and will no doubt impact the future of gaming in a major way. That said, Bethesda's Pete Hines did say that the company will still be publishing...

Following its acquisition of ZeniMax Media , Microsoft has significantly expanded on its first-party studio line-up. Along with noting that its studio teams have increased from 15 to 23, Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed on Xbox Wire that the company will “be adding Bethesda's iconic franchises to Xbox Game Pass.” You can also expect future Bethesda games to launch on Xbox Game Pass on the same day as their Xbox and PC releases.
One interesting bit that Spencer hinted at was the prospect of Starfield being an Xbox Game Pass launch title. “One of the things that has me most excited is seeing...

Microsoft to Buy ZeniMax Media, Add Bethesda to Xbox Game Studios

1 month ago   |   By Game Skinny

Microsoft is buying ZeniMax Media and adding the many developers under its umbrella, including Bethesda, to its list of Xbox studios. Microsoft announced the acquisition in a press release and a statement on the Xbox Wire blog. The move is partly intended to coincide with Microsoft's focus on cloud gaming, according to Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox.
The acquisition doesn't come cheap, either. While details are yet to be finalized, Microsoft's announcement said the deal costs $7.5 billion. For reference, that's $5 billion more than Microsoft paid for Mojang , the developer behind Minecraft...

Microsoft Buys ZeniMax Media - What This Means for The Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield and The Industry

When Microsoft announced that it had acquired ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion, owning companies like Bethesda, Arkane Studios, id Software and so on in the process, I attempted to make sense of the timed exclusivity deal for Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo. Sony announced that both titles would be timed exclusives for the PS5 with the former at least being exclusive for one year. That money is presumably still with Bethesda but the company is now owned by Microsoft with the latter benefiting from sales for both games. It's a rigmarole but only the beginning of a labyrinth of questions that...

Thankfully, there's now more clarity with respect to previously inked exclusivity deals and future game releases. Firstly, Microsoft does intend to honor Bethesda's existing deals with PlayStation, which grant PS5 timed exclusivity for Arkane Lyon's Deathloop and Tango's Ghostwire: Tokyo. It's additionally been confirmed that future releases from Bethesda Softworks will hit “other consoles on a case-by-case basis.”
Xbox Head Phil Spencer confirmed as much in speaking...

Bethesda games will come to other consoles ‘on a case-by-case basis'

1 month ago   |   By Nintendo Enthusiast

The biggest news of the day is easily that Microsoft has acquired ZeniMax, but that's not necessarily bad news for Nintendo Switch owners. Recently, both Microsoft and Bethesda have shown increased support for Switch. That includes stuff like Microsoft's surprise Ori and the Will of the Wisps launch and the upcoming Doom Eternal Switch port from Bethesda. However, Bethesda Executive Producer Todd Howard and Xbox head Phil Spencer indicate the studio won't be going purely Xbox-exclusive following the acquisition; other consoles and platforms are still a possibility. Howard's statement...

Earlier today, we reported the breaking news that Microsoft has acquired Bethesda and its parent company, ZeniMax. The news is an exciting grab for the company going into the new generation with the Xbox Series X, but many PlayStation fans are wondering what this means for their platform of choice going forward.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Bethesda had been working closely with Sony pre-acquisition with games like Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo. Given that both of those games were marketed as limited-time console exclusives, the acquisition of the company by Microsoft could...
